Warrior Field: More Than a Stadium
For generations, Warrior Field has been the backdrop for competition, school spirit, community pride, and unforgettable memories. It has welcomed athletes, families, alumni, and fans for decades—and it remains one of the most meaningful places on the Elko High School campus.
Now, it’s time to invest in the next generation and create a facility that reflects the heart, work ethic, and tradition of Elko High School.
A place that means something
More Than a Field
Warrior Field is more than a place to play. It is where students grow, teams unite, rivalries are renewed, and lifelong memories are made. It’s where the community gathers on Friday nights, where graduates celebrate major milestones, and where future generations dream of one day wearing maroon and white.
But after decades of use, Warrior Field no longer meets the needs of the students and community it serves. What once stood as a source of pride now requires major improvements to remain safe, functional, and ready for the future.
A legacy built over time
Warrior Field has evolved over more than a century, with each generation contributing improvements along the way.
-
Elko High School moved to its current location on College Avenue with simple grounds, wooden bleachers, and minimal infrastructure.
-
The University of Nevada, Reno donated former Mackay Stadium south end zone bleachers, increasing seating capacity and bringing a piece of Nevada sports history to Elko.
-
Lighting upgrades were completed.
-
The dirt track was replaced with the first asphalt track.
-
The track was resurfaced and metal bleachers were added.
-
Restroom facilities were upgraded.
-
Boosters funded field re-crowning the grass field to improve drainage.
-
The track was re-topped.
-
The last track meet was held at Elko High School.
The Impact Beyond the Field
Why improvements are needed
The Challenge We Face Today
While Warrior Field has served generations well, many core elements of the facility are now beyond their intended lifespan.
The current track surface is deteriorating and uneven. Athletes and coaches have described slipping hazards, broken surfaces, and practice limitations caused by the condition of the facility.
Safety Concerns
Existing bleachers, lighting, field conditions, and amenities no longer match the needs of a modern high school athletic program or the expectations of today’s students and families.
Outdated Infrastructure
Lost Opportunities
Because the track can no longer host meets and the current soccer setup does not meet ideal standards, Elko students miss opportunities to compete at home and the community misses opportunities to welcome visiting teams and events.voices from elko high school
